Waared - Shipping and Logistics Platform Design
April 2023 - Jan 2024
My Role:
As the sole Product Designer in a cross-functional team comprising developers, engineers, and a Product Manager, I spearheaded the redesign of Waared's website. My responsibilities included conducting user research, wireframing, prototyping, and delivering the final designs.
Project Goal:
The primary objective was to revamp Waared's brand identity and completely overhaul its website. The focus was on enhancing user experience to facilitate global carrier connections and streamline shipment bookings. The project encompassed three distinct user journeys: the shipper’s journey, the seller’s journey, and the admin journey, along with the creation of a mobile application.
Outcome: The result was a responsive website design complemented by a well-crafted mobile application.
Process and Experience:
1. Discovery:
I initiated the project by analyzing the existing website designs and the provided site map. This exploration helped identify the necessary sections and informed the creation of a comprehensive set of new pages.
2. Branding Guidelines:
To infuse a fresh identity into Waared, I researched color schemes within the shipping industry. Drawing on color psychology, I carefully selected a palette that conveyed trust, reliability, and dynamism. The final color scheme was a fusion of maritime blues and vibrant oranges.
3. Typeface Selection:
After finalizing the colors, I chose a main typeface and a distinct one for landing page headings, ensuring readability and visual hierarchy.
4. User Research:
Understanding the target audience, primarily business owners and frequent shippers, was pivotal. I identified key pain points such as lack of visibility, complex documentation, and limited shipping options. Waared aimed to address these challenges by simplifying freight forwarding processes.
5. Landing Page Design:
I began designing the landing page, starting with basic wireframes to conceptualize the layout. The initial wireframes evolved into three high-fidelity versions, each refined based on team feedback, user testing, and iterative design.
6. Other Pages Design:
Subsequent to landing page approval, I extended the design overhaul to other pages. Each page incorporated essential features tailored to user needs, and design decisions were backed by considerations of usability and visual appeal.
Extending Waared's Reach: Mobile Application Design
After the successful redesign of the Waared website, the design journey seamlessly extended to the creation of a mobile application, enhancing accessibility for users on the go.
Key Steps:
Consistent Design Language: The mobile application mirrored the established brand guidelines, ensuring a consistent and harmonious visual identity with the website.
Responsive Elements: Optimized for various screen sizes and orientations, the designs embraced responsive elements for an intuitive experience on both smartphones and tablets.
Streamlined Navigation: Tailored for smaller screens, the design prioritized simplicity, ensuring an easy and intuitive user journey on mobile devices.
Feature Adaptation: Every feature from the website found its counterpart in the mobile app, maintaining continuity in user experience across platforms.
Visual Continuity:
Adapting the color palette, typography, and iconography to smaller screens ensured visual continuity, maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the website.
Iterative Prototyping:
The mobile designs underwent iterative prototyping, incorporating feedback from testing sessions and collaboration with the development team to ensure both design standards and technical feasibility were met.
Conclusion:
The Waared mobile application extends the brand's commitment to a cohesive user experience, providing a seamless and delightful journey for users across various digital touchpoints.
